The heat index is hitting over 100 in central Texas............is there anything extra that I need to add to there water to help .......they have plenty of shade and a fan and holes they like to lay in but they still look like they are panting

Defiantly add electrolytes. This helps with dehydration. Frozen water bottles help too. Shade and water are other necessities.

I agree with the misting--- it does help. Also make sure your fans are circulating the air not just blowing hot air on to them.

In the morning here, I wet down the holes and favorite spots of my birds, and they seem to enjoy and appreciate this. I change the water every morning and sometimes put a frozen bottle inside to help keep the waterer cooler. Even a small patch of shade cloth can help if you have a place you can use it… or build something for them. I think you noted that you are using misters, you might add a few more.

Hot as it is, has been, and will be, it will pass just like every other year. For us there is about 30 days left to deal with, yours might be longer.

Best to your birds in this heat,

RJ

Watch the misting systems, cold water on a hot bird equals a dead bird. If your going to use them turn them on in the morning before the heat of the day.

Also if your feeding a high protein feed (20+) you may want to drop the protein some. You can simply add a little more grain to there diet (scratch grain works good).
