Ok I am only in this Chicken raising about 4 weeks!!! LOVING IT!! my coop has a chicken wire section under their roost (great for letting the poop fall through to the ground below and I can rake it up)...I am having issues with shaving falling through that when they get in there and scratch around, I wanted to do the deep litter method for this winter but it is not working as of yet, today I have to go in and add more shavings as the bare floor is starting to show already from them scratching. In the winter I will cover the chicken wire with a board to keep cold drafts out, but is there anything else I can do to keep my litter shavings in there?? the comments I read about poop boards is that just a board that ya'll just put under their roost and pull it out to clean?? I am trying to picture it in my head...any pictures would be great if ya'll wanna share....THANKS!!

You'll find all kinds of ideas on your very problem....wishing you all the best!

Think of cat litter boxes, that's what my poop boards are like. they are wooden trays with 3in sides that are under the roosts, I keep Sweet PDZ in them to act as the litter and use a litter scoop to clean them once or twice a week.

There is almost no smell and it scoops out real easy.

Depending on your coop design if you could make them into pullout trays/drawers that would make cleaning even easier.

Something like these examples:

(This is the one I'm copying and building, but using a 2x4 laying flat for the roost bar itself...2x3 is too small!)

This is what to use in the tray...smell GREAT!

That is so much like mine...mine has two roost bars, though. I will never be without a poopboard again.

WONDERFUL!!! I have a 2x2 for the roost bar (came that way when I bought the pre-fab coop) but told hubby that I wanted it changed to a 2x4 sideways or flat...I will have him make me a "litter box" to put on the wire for the winter!!! Dont want them getting a cold breeze on their fannys in the winter!!! Summer its great for ventilation!!
