So its hatching day. I incubated for 10 days and then placed them under my broody Silkie hen. Today is hatching day. So far, two chicks have died while trying to hatch. One still had a sack outside and the other looks perfectly perfect, except that it died half way out. I took the remaining eggs away from the hen and put them in the incubator. What happened?

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry about the loss of your chicks. I've never had that specific problem with my broody hens hatching eggs, but if you post this on our Incubating and Hatching Eggs section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs, I feel certain you'll get lots of answers. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

I do not know what happened either. Definitely post this question in our hatching eggs forum. I hope you can get some answers there. I am so sorry.

Hens don't help chicks out of the eggs. Unless it looks like she attacked them , she is NOT
the reason for the hatching failure.

There looks like an awful lot of shell damage there. When I hatched under a broody, the egg shells looked as neat and clean as if they had hatched in an incubator.....two halves of shell with a neat zip line. Do you think maybe that mum has crushed them?
