I was told you don't get a good hatch rate during dog days and the chicks are unhealthy.Any thoughts on this.

Did they say why?

My thoughts. If you want to hatch eggs, hatch them. You are not supposed to get a good hatch in winter either because the rooster is not fertile but I got 23 out of 25 in the incubator. The rooster is not supposed to be fertile when he is molting either but I’ve had good hatches with broodies then. I’ve had decent hatches in late summer too.

If you don’t set the eggs you won’t get a good hatch. If you set eggs you might or might or might not get a good hatch, there are no guarantees one way or the other. The only guarantee is that if you do not set eggs you will definitely not get a good hatch.
