I know this has probably been asked before but which hatchery would you go through? Looking for cheapest and best chicks. Thanks

I found meyers to be one of the more reasonably priced places, I ordered 25 broiler birds from them and it was $63.75 with shipping to california this is our first time ordering from anywhere and our chicks wont ship until the end of september (earliest they had was sept 15th)

I am picking up 25 CX from Cackle Hatchery next week. It was $58 for 25 of them. I will report back on the quality, but I have heard good things about them. If you get 50 instead of 25, they're over 50 cents cheaper (or cheep-er) per chick, I think around $1.80 each.

I have ordered my last several batches from Hoover Hatchery in Rudd, IA. I think they have very reasonable prices and the chickens grow well and have very few issues.

You may want to consider Jenks Hatchery in Tangent, Oregon (www.jenkshatchery.com) next time. I pay $1.35 per chick for Cornish X from them and have been very happy with them. I order 30 at a time and spend $40.50. I pick up my chicks since I am close enough, but they ship as well.

do they offer anything besides straight run? I noticed their site only has prices for straight run... If I decide to do that next time I will for sure give them a call, this time I am getting all hens

I believe they only offer straight run. My last batch had mostly hens though. They are a small family owned and operated hatchery. Therefore, it's possible they don't have the sexing capabilities as hatcheries that sell chicks for egg laying. Their main focus is meat birds and turkeys . If you call or email I'm sure they would gladly answer that question for sure.

I actually just got a great deal from ideal poultry. 30 birds for $56. That includes the shipping. Thanks for all the feedback!
