Egg Eating Chicken and I am out of ideas

Thanks for the reply.

I wondered too about the eggs being stepped on. Broody Mama is in a separate cage with her eggs, non eaten so far, and none appear to be missing from the coop from the normal layers. Hopefully the problem is fixed.

I have roll away nesting boxes that I get at inside the coop about the same size as average boxes... Could be a back up plan maybe. If your interested I could try to explain them or post a picture.
I know this thread is really old, but what are roll-away nesting boxes? I too have an egg eater and am trying to find all possible ways to stop her.

I tried the mustard egg, all that did was identify the primary culprit. I removed the hen to a separate cage, put a solid fake egg in for the other hens to peck on a few times (they had all learned to peck eggs before I caught the ringleader) and I did notice several things: the hens didn't mind the mustard, they seemed to want the shell almost as much as the inside, so I added a pulverized oyster shell in with their regular oyster shell. The ringleader hen started laying soft shell eggs, so I gave her extra kale and mealworms, and as soon as her egg shell firmed back up, she stopped eating every egg. Since she was separated, the other hens stopped eating eggs, (fake egg always in place tho) and after a while, the ringleader lost interest in eating the egg. I put her back in with the others now, but I'll never remove the fake egg, just in case.
