so if in the long run I wanted to sell eggs I'd have to sell them as standard coturnix eggs right? Not jumboYep, shouldnt be a problem unless you don't want the jumbo part to breed out
If there is a big difference in the size of their eggs now than yeah, egg size will decrease when you cross them. If you're in this for the long run you can breed for specific traits like larger egg size, overall size, color patterns, pretty much any specific characteristic you choose. The sky is the limit with coturnix which is why they are so popular as research birds. So

Please post about your research and results!Part of my reason for raising quail is to research line breeding. I have some charts, but then people say don't use charts, then there are some other plans, but I don't know how to know what works and what doesn't. I thought I could try some of them out with the quail, since they reproduce so quickly, with short generation time. And I can eat the ones that don't turn out.
Would a rabbit cage like this be suitable for keeping single males? or for a few quail? It is just that I see them advertised by people getting rid of rabbits for next to nothing ( 5- 15 $) I was thinking that they might work. If the plastic part broke, I would just build a plywood base the same size.
