I need help!!

I have posted on a couple threads. I really need any advice on my sick duck. She is five months old. She started walking drunk Sunday. By yeatersay she has no coordination to walk at all! I am able to get her to drink an eat but she is so so so uncoordinated. I tried Epsom salt flush and molasses. I don't know if she got enough. She has diarreah that is green but that could be te corn she eats also. Anyone know how long it takes to recover from botulism if that is what she has!

Can you take her to a vet? If not, put her in a small pen with access to food and water that she can't drown in, start on Corid for coccidiosis and Safeguard for worms. Both have been known to cause the symptoms you're seeing. If she's old enough to lay, you should also check to see if maybe she has a stuck egg - glove, ky jelly, gently insert lubed finger to check for egg.

Corid or Amprol doses per the mfg and FDA are:

  • Powder is 1.5 teaspoons per gallon for 5-7 days then 1/3 teaspoon for 7 days.
  • Liquid is 2 teaspoons per gallon for 5-7 days then 1/2 teaspoon for 7 days.

Tractor Supply has Corid (can also use Amprol) in the cattle section. This is what it looks like:




Safeguard and Panacur (can use either).
  • Dose I would use is 0.5ml per 2.2 pounds for five days

Paste in horse section, liquid in goat/cattle and they look like this:

So she definetly had a very large egg. That passed thru now with ky. Or at least we think so. We found the egg but she is not doing any better. I can no longer palpate an egg in her abdomen/ how long does it take to recover from being egg bound

It can take many hours, sometimes a couple of days. You could give her a tums or human calcium pill, that will help her with her next egg and it might also make her feel better. Keep her warm with access to lots of water.

Thank you! She is still fighting the battle. We are continuing supportive care with fluids with electrolytes and adding calcium and warm baths. We are praying for her. She is so very trusting
 
Started my duck on amoxicillin. She passed two more soft Shelled eggs. This am we took her to vet and got her a shot of baytril and amoxicillin and meloxicam for pain. She atw pretty good after that. Walking is still difficult but not as wobbly. She continues to drink fluids. X-ray show she likely has one egg left. Long long process but I feel I am doing everything possible to gives duck a chance!
