Hey all,

Thanks for having me. here is my question, i recently was given 4- 1 month old chicks (brahma and rhode mix), built a nice fancy coop and run, and now the neighbour down the road is ill and want to get ride of 6- 4 month old chicks.

How do i go about adding the new 6? Can i just add them or should i seperate them for a few weeks or days?

Any help would be great.

Quarantine new chicks until you are sure they are healthy. Then keep them separate but in sight of each other for another week before you let them mingle. I usually partition off part of my run for this and use a crate for them to sleep in. This will help but they still will have to establish the pecking order. Try not to interfere unless somebody draws blood. If you have a bleeding chicken get it away from the others. Everything should be settled within a week or so. Good luck and welcome to BYC.

that is what i was thinking. i do know they are healthy because i have spent lots of time down there in the last few weeks helping them out.

thanks for the reply and the welcome to the forum.
