I recently found a Coturnix Quail, brown in color, while mowing the lawn. From this photo on my phone, a bird farm employee described it as the Coturnix. I was told it was male if it's noisy at night and female if quiet. Now I'm reading that spots on the chest can determine sex. Am I confused? I'd say yes I am.

If it is a female, I'd love to know the best way to encourage her to lay eggs. What is the best way to house the quail and any pertinent info so this quail is kept in comfort. Thanks

It's a female. She will need proper feed and a calcium supplement as well as 14 hours of full spectrum light each day in order to lay.

Feed her 20-24% gamebird layer or flight conditioner. Supplement with freely fed oysters shells.

Make sure there is a full spectrum light creating at least a 14 hour up to a 16 hour daylight period.

You should consider getting set up and buy a couple more females :) 1 quail egg every day or two is hard to find culinary use for :)
