Why Do Chickens get So MANY diseases!!!

Thanks Michael Apple....

I have taken the healthy chickens to my friends house this morning. His project is an organic garden and he will use the chickens manure as plant food.. and they have a lovely area to free range and a huge compost pile to dig in. Sad to see them go, but I know they have a good home.

Sadly I decided to cull the younger sick ones. Not a nice experience, but had to be do really.

Now I have no chickens.... fist time in 7 years.

I cleaned and disinfected the feeder and water container, coop and run.. and added fresh new sand, and also burnt all the old nest boxes and perches.

I have decided to concentrate on my fancy pigeons now. They have the coop to themselves.

Thanks everyone for information about diseases.

The run of bad luck with my chickens has put me off keeping them. I'll miss the eggs too... but my female duck is a good layer.. maybe let her hatch out a few and eat duck eggs instead in the future.

I think ducks would be a good choice for you. They do better near lakes and water than chickens do. I'm sorry you had to cull your flock... that must have been hard. Hopefully your bad luck turns to good for you from here on out
