Where I live we are currently preparing for winter storm Juno. What should I do to keep my 4 hens and 1 rooster warm? Their coop is filled with straw but is that enough to keep them warm with 18 - 24" of snow?
 
Yes, their coop is inside of an enclosure (basically a run) with a roof

Here's a picture. Just to give an idea. By the way, this is a temporary coop and run enclosure. We are rebuilding and extending in the spring!! :)
 
Looks like they should be alright but, if I were you, get a heat lamp and zip tie tarps onto the chicken wire. That's what I did and my chickens are always warm and dry.
 
I have ameraucana hens and black sex link hens. As well as an unidentified rooster. Maybe a white ameraucana people have told me! Are these hardy breeds?
We are trying to decide what is better...keep them in their coop or put them into dog carriers in our shed?
 
They will be fine, as long as your coop is well ventilated. Don't keep them locked up tight. Humidity in the coop is not their friend. I have had my pop door open all winter - even when our temps have gotten down to the -20s. My chickens always have the option of being in or going out, whatever they desire. They don't like the snow if it's too deep.
