Yes, most chickens DO NOT like snow!

Well this storm is a whopper.... snow now falling 2 plus
Inches per hour! Could get up to 3 feet! It's going to be a long day! I think il make the some warm oatmeal !
At least the run is covered and wrapped in plastics so they are away front the brutal winds!
Be safe everyone....

I wrapped my run in clear tarps for the winter and so far it had kept out any snow that we got. I kept the run open at the eaves though. I thought the gap was small enough and I had enough of an overhang that blowing snow wouldn't really be an issue. Up until now it hadn't been an issue so I figured it would do for the blizzard too. Well, I was wrong. Braved the weather this morning to let the birds out only to find that I had snow drifts inside the run. Not too bad, but more than I wanted and with more to come as the snow isn't expected to let up until tomorrow. So I shoveled it out and tacked up some plastic garbage bags to cover the gaps so the birds could have a snow-free run. After all that, where do you think they are? Inside the coop!

Same thing happened in RI. I have 3 girls. Are they ok locked in the coop without food and water for the night? Mine have hay bedding. Their run is partially covered with a tarp but they still didn't come out this morning after I trudged through 3 ft of snow to feed and water them.

It won't kill them, but they would be better if they had some water and feed. stay safe. It's brutal out there. I'm in central Maine, and we're getting hammered. I have no idea when it's gonna let up. We're burning through firewood like there's no tomorrow.

I'm in NW CT. We really lucked out with this storm and only got about 8". I'm sort of disappointed as I was looking forward to a really good storm.

My chickens hate the snow and will barely touch it. My buff brahma with the feathered feet is the only one who will walk through it.

I had quite a bit of blown snow in the run that I shoveled and covered with straw. They really like the straw to walk on.
