I have been looking at starting my own breeding project and i think that i settled on red cochin bantams. I have read that there are no or few true red cochin bantams as most are bred from road island reds or some other breeds but they should truly come from a buff and black cochin mix. I'm curious if anyone knows the few breeders left of this breed, if the standard of perfection is seen in them (often) anymore, and if all the red cochins i see for sale or as chicks or eggs are just some strange mix that isn't truly them which can be seen in hatchery stock for example. So in short how many proper breeders are there for this breed, and are they really supposed to be a straight cochin mix like i have red or do they have something like rir in them?

Yes, There are Red Cochins being bred at present. There is a man somewhere in Minn. that has some nice ones. I had Red Cochin Bantams over 50 year ago. Don
