So this gorgeous guy was abandoned at my mother's rental property. We have a coop with a pretty large run for our 11 chicks. Would we be able to put them together? I am a beginner with chickens, but totally clueless with the new guy! Any advice would be so much appreciated.

He looks like a lady Amherst. I don't raise pheasants, but I did do a small stint of ownership when I rescued one from a bad place. What I learned in that time is that they shouldn't be kept with chickens - chickens can carry diseases that don't affect them but are deadly to pheasants. Pheasants also require game bird feed. They can fly, so they need a totally enclosed pen. Hopefully someone else who knows more will chime in soon!

You got it right. We are making a difference here. Now spread the word so we can save these birds from disappearing. He actually looks like a pretty good bird.Just going by the breast with no red in it and just a hint of red at the base of the tail.

Put him on craigslist or take him to an auction. I wouldn't put him with chickens, especially chicks.

Wish I was near you,I would gladly take him and give him a home with a bunch of ladies.Did you try contacting the renter?I hope he/she(the renter)doen't make a habit of leaving live birds, animals behind when he/she moves.

So long as your birds have no disease and you keep all your birds regularly wormed and their pen clean he should be fine. I know domestic poultry can carry diseases but so can wild birds etc. Just so long as your husbandry is up to scratch he most likely wouldn't be affected

it would help if we knew your location-

We're in GA. They technically have until Saturday to get him, but I am really not holding out much hope. They left behind about 30 chickens, a goat, and a pig. They came for their two horses yesterday.
