I have 8 chicks that were hatched on Jan 16. They are a cross between a BR roo and Red Star hens. 4 were black and 4 were white. The black ones have nice barring on their feathers that are in. One chick has developed feathers much faster than the others. It has tail feathers, wing and shoulder feathers. The others have wing feathers. 1 other chick just got the start of shoulder feathers that I noticed today. Is it unusual for there to be such a difference? I have read that females may feather faster--if that was the case, I will be very grumpy with 7 boys and 1 girl LOL!!!
Here is the fast chick and the next most developed. All the rest just have wing feathers and fuzz.
I just looked closely at all the chicks--the other blacks have maybe 2-3 little feathers at the shoulders. The whites have nothing.
Thanks
