Just curious if anyone has heard of this. Runner female, all black, at around age two started growing white patches. First just a few feathers, now lots of white. Has been happening for about a year.
Why would a black duck start growing white feathers?

She's bleaching out. My cayuga's started bleaching a little ways back.
My female Cayuga has started growing a few white ones too!
Cayugas will be completely white by the end. It's how you can tell how old they are. Maybe black runners have the same thing?
I have Runners - black and chocolate.

My two year old Muscovy hens were completely black when I got them at 6 months or so. They now have a white on their wings. It is pretty cool looking. I am assuming that they will get even whiter as they age.
It's an age thing. I expect my Cayuga may get a white feather or too come the next molt.
