Hello all

We finally have fresh eggs. After hatching and raising our our chicks they finally started laying eggs. Have two eggs we picked up today (happy easter) we are going to try and incubate them and see what happens.

I'm warming our incubator up now and was wondering can I put eggs in today? I've got them covered with a mild warm towel til incubator is ready in a bit. Is that good?

Your comments and help in the past have brought this success so any suggestions now are greatly appreciated

Happy Easter!

You can leave your eggs at room temperature for a couple of days just to make sure your incubator is set just right before you add eggs. That may give you a few more eggs to set as well. The towel is unnecessary, just be sure they are away from a window or register.

If you will be storing eggs more than about four days you will want to find a cooler place, 55-60F, with relatively high humidity and tilt/turn them daily.

We have a peep inside the incubator from our americana egg. I've never heard them peep from inside the shell. Is it ok? Do I just let it run its course and hope it survives or ?

It's fine. When the chick pips internally, it learns to use its lungs with the air in the air cell. I love hearing the muffled responses and shell to shell chatter.

I wish i had camera in hand when my daughter heard it. Priceless. Shes gonna be a "grandma" he first hatch is this eggs momma. So excited for her

Well our little baby hasn't made a sound all day. Kinda worried about it. My daughter is afraid it didn't make it. Is it normal to have them active in the egg one day and nothing the next? This is day 20

I can't tell for sure if your chick is okay, but yes, they do go through quiet periods prior to hatching.

Is your hatching humidity high enough? Has it pipped yet?
