I just set up my Brinsea octagon advance and only half the fans are running. It has a total of 4. The ones on the left run all the time as far as I can tell and the ones on the right don't run at all. Is this normal??

I dont have the 40 but have the 20. But all 4 should be running to get the even air/heat distribution throughout the incubator with only 2 running you will have hot and cooler spots in the bator. I would contact Brinsea straight away.

That's great news that they are sending you a replacement top and over night too. They are good over here too in the UK for customer service. You should be up and running soon then. What are you setting? I now wish I had got the 40 instead of the 20. Keep us posted on how it goes with the 40. It maybe something for the future for me.

I agree. I would love to hear a review on the 40. Many of us have the 20s, but reviews on the 40 are few and far between. Have you used a Brinsea before? If not, you certainly are starting off on the right foot

Thanks everyone. I have never used a Brinsea, I've been using an older Hova Bator incubator up until now. I'm excited to give the Brinsea a try. For sure I will post a review and keep everyone informed on how it is going with the 40. I have a full load going in on Monday or Tuesday depending on when the new top gets here. (Cream Legbars, Blue Isbars and Black Copper Marans going in). Wish me luck.

The best incubator, and the best eggs. I'm jealous

The new top came in yesterday as promised. I have everything set up and running. I want to let it run a couple days before my eggs get here. The temp seems to be a little low. I have the Brinsea set at 99.6 and my calibrated thermometer is saying it is 97.9 in there. Should I just trust the Brinsea? I mean that's why I paid the extra. I did contact Brinsea and they said to trust the unit. What are your thoughs? Anyone else have this issue?

I had the exact issue. I trusted the unit, and my first 2 hatches were drug out slowly between days 21 and 23. All chicks were healthy, just slow to hatch and never a flurry of activity. I would just get a chick ever few hours. I bought a spot check, and measured temperatures from 97.9-99.9. I didn't want to fry them, so I bumped the display up to 100.0. I have run two hatches that way, and the results were incredible. A couple of hatches on day 20, the majority on day 21, and a few stragglers on day 22, all healthy. I would say run the first batch at the factory settings. Even if the hatch is drawn out, they will be healthy. If it is drawn out, try bumping the next one up to 100.0

Thanks scflock. I will give it a try. The eggs are all do to get here on Wednesday. I will let them sit for a day since they are shipped and then put them in on Thursday. Ill keep everyone updated on results I have through out the process.
