My 9 month old Easter Eggwr had only been laying for a month when I stupidly forgot to close the coop door one night and we had a raccoon or possum attack. The predator took a big chunk out of my Wheaten Marans' tail feathers and was able to drag off and eat our 8 week old Red Star chicken. Well, my Easter Egger, who wasn't harmed in the attack has not laid a single egg since that day. Is this common after a predator attack? More common with younger layers like my EE? How long does it usually take for a traumatized hen to lay again? All input welcome.
