Hey, great question! I have 13 chickens, and have 8 nest boxes, four stacked on four. The lowest are a foot or two from the floor, the highest one about four feet. I have two roosts so they can get up easier. The boxes have a 2" lip, and are about 12" x 14". Hope this helps!

I use kitty litter pails as nest boxes...I just cut the plastic lid at the hinge and the portion left provides a 3 inch lip to hold in the straw (I aslo pop off the handle)...easy to clean ...free and my Krewe loves them...I have 6 nest boxes for 8 hens but could drop a couple.

Thank u sooooo much this help a little but looking for more details about how the nesting boxes will comfort my flock I have 6 chickens and plan on getting more!!

Our nesting boxes are 14"x18+" with three solid sides and a completely open front. The nesting boxes open into the coop. The smallest breed we have is a Speckled Sussex. Our others are all pretty big girls. They like the extra space in the nesting boxes (we had standard 12"x12" that weren't used at all). We have four nesting boxes for eight girls. That ratio works well for us.
