Duck egg gone wrong?

We are right at Day 28 with our duck eggs, and had two hatch out successfully last night. But this egg... He externally pipped at around 10pm last night, and hadn't made much progress since. He has developed a strange dark ring around the air sac, but he's moving and peeping.

You can see that DH decided to try and give him an assist since we have some concerns about shrink wrapping. He's now back in the incubator on a damp paper towel with heat and humidity relatively high. Any thoughts about what is going on with him?

The other eggs seem to be doing OK as far as external pips, unzipping, etc. Just this one... Very weird.

It might've pipped into a vein, and the dark ring you're seeing could be a bit of blood. Just keep an eye out to make sure that whatevers going on there doesn't glue it into the shell.
That's really the only thing I can think of that it might be. But, if nothing else, this will bump your post to the top so someone else might catch it.

Has it made any progress since you started this thread?

I think you are right about him popping a vein... It ended up being completely glued into the shell, just miserably sticky and unable to make anything happen. We pulled back some of the sticky membrane, and it stuck to the q-tips, cotton balls, paper towels, etc over the course of the afternoon.

This baby finally kicked himself free, though! He's smaller and weaker than the others, but his yolk was pretty much absorbed and he's moving around. Hoping he'll make it through tonight... Thanks for the reply!
