I'm starting to think my new duck is a goose...?

Didn't you raise a goose from hatch to adulthood as a single goose? I could've sworn you posted the Faster Anna videos on YouTube.
Yes, I did, and I still do. That's how I feel comfortable sharing my opinion - I have a lot of experience in goose/human relationships. I've also raised goslings in pairs; Faster Anna is my 10th goose.

We are two people sharing Faster Anna, which means we can each do our our chores while the other one keeps her company. And due to health issues we're both very limited in what else we can do besides watching a goose. She's practically never alone - she even has a goose sitter on the rare occasion both of us have to leave her.

Faster Anna was raised as a house gosling and slept with me in my bed until she started laying. She still wears a diaper on the rare occasion she decides she wants to roam the house. But unless the yard is filled with snow, that hardly ever happens. She prefers being outside, as all my geese did once they grew up.

I'm not saying this is the only way, nor that I'm the only person in the world who can do it. All I did was suggest OP get another gosling (in one post) and answer someones question (in another). I don't care for internet fighting, but I do care for sharing ideas, knowledge, and experience.

I abhor internet spats as well, but I didn't call you out to pick a fight. You did make rather negative broad blanket statements against raising a single goose when you yourself have raised multiple single house geese. I'm glad you clarified that you are not the only person in the world who can raise a happy single house goose. I hope at some point we can swap stories about our companions. That really is why I chose to be a part of this community.

I should probably clarify that my friend who lives across the street from me got two ducklings the day i got Cas so he can play with them any time he wants. I fully intend on raising him solo as a house goose but if as he grows i see that hes lonely or would rather live outside then i will make adjustments for that.

Also i am not raising him alone either. My husband is disabled and always home. I work only part time out side the home. My two children are 16 and 15. So there are plenty of people always around to keep him happy and occupied!

I've been sitting out watching posts about Cas and just came across this while searching for what breed of goose would best suit our home and life.... Good thing he ended up so awesome and cuddly with his humans ._.

I can only wish that they all were as sweet at he seems to be. My overall experiences with geese throughout my life have mostly been poor XD

Cas is truly unique it's true! But i do believe this kind of relationship can be possible with any goose given the same level of care and attention. Prior to Cas my experiences with geese were that they are aggressive and protective farm animals and never pets. Cas has really changed my mind on that lol

What's horrible is I have always loved geese (except wild Canadian geese....but, I dislike being attacked by wild animals lol). I would cry when I was little because the geese wouldn't let me near them hahaha. Especially the knobby chinese ones....I just wanted to touch their heads XD

I do think it's probably like so many other social animals....the general rule of thumb is that they do better in a group, but that is not the case for each individual (they all have their own personalities, after all), nor for every situation. Dogs, horses, pet rats, guinea pigs, cows, sheep.....all generally social animals who have been successfully, happily raised alone. You just have to be willing to have them with you most of the time :)
