So I have my GQF Sportsman loaded with pheasant eggs- Amherst, Red Golden, Yellow Golden, Ringneck and Dark Throat. Last season, I got chicks from all my birds so was excited to see how this yr would fair-

I candled last night and discovered that not a single egg from my Dark Throats is fertile!! Everything else is developing nicely except for the Dark Throats do not show any fertility. I have not changed anything in their flight, the diet is the same for all breeders, there are sight barriers in place for the different birds.

Is it possible that my cockbird has gone sterile? Should I look to replace him or could he just be having an "off" year?

Thanks for any words of wisdom here...

i wouldnt replace him...i hatched over 200 red golden, yellow golden, silver goldens, cinnamon goldens, and lady amherst....and i did notice that some of the pens werent fertile at first...and now they are...im still hatching eggs as we speak....the only ones left laying now are the lady amherst....so be patient....hope this helps...the yellow goldens and lady amhersts werent fertile for like half the season...

These birds aren't like chickens. If you put a rooster with a hen bam within 2 seconds he is on her,but pheasants,if she don't want to breed they don't,if he don't want to breed(fool) they don't.Don't give up on themthey will probably end up being your best producers later on.
