Shipped Eggs - Some broken - "goo"on the rest

I just received hatching eggs. Out of 12, 4 were broken. They were packed in such a way that the egg goo got all over the 8 good ones. My question is - can these be washed off and put under the broody? I don't want to hinder the egg shels, so it can't "breathe", but I can't put them under Mom this way, they'd stick to her.

Your prompt response(s) would be appreciated.

There seems to be a lot of controversy as to how to clean eggs before incubating. My suggestion is to type in, "How to clean eggs to be incubated" on your computer. You will get a lot of different ideas and opinions. Me-I'd let the eggs dry and put under a broody hen as is. A while back I had a broody hen with an intestinal problem. She brooded well but it was not long before all the eggs were caked with droppings. I figured nothing would hatch; every egg (15) hatched.
 
Thanks for the response. As it turned out, since I had the problem this a.m. I had to figure out what to do then and there. What I did was spritz with water so they wouldn't stick to anything. I ended up spritzing them a few times and decided to wash them gently. When I did wash them it didn't take long to run them under the water and get the stuff off. The spritzing had evidently gotten enough stuff off so it went quick. The seller has offered to replace the eggs. I told him that I'd try them under the broody and see what happened. I'll have to let him know if they hatch or they are a bust and then I can get them replaced if need be. A really nice seller (eBay).

I'm just wondering, were the eggs individually wrapped with bubble wrap? I use shipped eggs and I know how important it is that they arrive safely! Thankfully, I've never had a broken egg. No, actually they were packed in thin sheet foam and then put in actual egg cartons. There was shredded foam around the cartons and also shredded paper in the shipping box. The box had a small dent on the corner, but I guess that's all it took to break the eggs. I told him that I would prefer that he bubble wrap them individually, then put large pouch-like bubble wrap in with them. He said he would pack them that way if I wanted him to resend them. To tell you the truth, I would not send that "open letter to egg shippers". I think it comes off as rude and I can see where someone could be offended. I would never presume to tell a person where they should buy their packing material. I would ask them how they ship their eggs first off (should've w/this seller, but I didn't know this would happen) and if they do not ship the way I would like, I'd ask them to. If they don't agree, I would not buy from them. My transaction with this seller will be ok, as he's offered to replace the eggs. In the end all I'll be out is the time needed to have another hen go broody. Lesson learned.

I agree with you, I have not ever actually used that letter but it did gives me lots of tips for how shipping & when shipping should be done! I totally get what you're saying! :)
