Hi,

I have 4 hens and bought 3 chicks last weekend! The chicks are about 5 weeks old, iv moved them to the shed at night to sleep and iv bought a run for the day!

Today is he first day they have been in the run and they seemed to love it...especially having a bath in the soil!

My other girls though aren't that impressed! They keep circling the cage and any chance they get they squeeze their heads through the run and go in for a peck!

What should I do? Will the hens get bored? Will they hurt the chicks given a chance?
Or should I just leave them too it?

My hens are about 24 weeks old!

Any advice nicely appreciated!

Given the chance your hens will very likely hurt the chicks. Big chickens pick on new or smaller chickens. It's just the way their society works. It is generally best to wait until new birds have reached mature size before introducing them to an established flock.
