Kind of confused here....I purchased some australorp eggs from a local breeder. All of his pens were separated and organized nicely. But hearing how hard it is to sex australorps I'm concerned because I'm pretty sure these chicks are easy to distinguish already at 1 month old......

So the question I guess is...........Am I correct in the assumption that they are as I describe below.........and if not Australorps...did I get some mutts? or some other easily distinguishable breed?

It's too early to tell gender on these chicks. Both males and females have spur buds so it's not an indication of gender. The one with yellow feet looks like a Jersey Giant. The one with white/pink feet looks like an Australorp.

I've never heard of Aussies being especially hard to sex. They're about the same as any other straight combed dual purpose breed, the first dependable sign is going to be a larger comb that gets red color early. Neither of those birds are screaming cockerel to me at this point, but a month is early yet, give it another 2-3 weeks to be sure.

I agree the different coloring of skin lends itself to either birds of two different breeds, or mixed breed birds.
 
Thank you all so much for your input. I will try and snap a photo of all 5 of them in a while. I was really surprised by the two that have tail feathers already. And 3 that don't. I am greatful for all of your knowledge.
 
Only managed to capture 4, the 5th one wisely waited till I put these guys back and then decided to jump in the middle of them.

#1 Has longer tail than most, yellow feet. Comb is very light colored.

#2 Short tail feathers, light colored feet, comb seems longer than others and more pink



#3 Short tail feathers, light colored feet, comb seems medium in length and color


#4 Very long tail feathers, Yellow feet, comb is mostly black



Heres a wildcard for ya!.....our Young Pekin ducks. I'm guessing the one in the back is a male, the tail does curl up a bit, obviously not a drake feather yet. But the head also looks slightly different.....The one in front is louder then the one in the back. The one in the back is a lot more shy however.... Thoughts?

For those that are wondering and may search for this answer later......I think we may have had some mixed, They all have a greenish shine to them like australorps are suppose to. We did lose one of the chicks to a predator not long after my original post. Of the 4 remaining 1 roo and the rest hens.

I'll try and send some photos of the hens later on, what I can say is 2 of them look like what you would expect, and the other hen seems more filled out, feather wise and slightly bigger.....but not a huge difference like a giant would be.

anyways......Here's George.....just started crowing 2 weeks ago. 99% sure a Ausy, or at least a Ausy mix.
