What did they sell me? Gold Laced Orpingtons ? Australorps? Wyandotte

Every one who says they are a breeder, isn't necessarily telling the truth. There are "chicken mills," just like puppy mills, and the quality is usually poor.

My friend got screwed buying a frizzle hen from some bigshot breeder in Minnesota. His ad listed about every breed of chicken , duck, geese. etc there are. But when she inquired he only had one frizzle hen. Coincidence, or conspiracy, you be the judge. The bird was filthy from pooing all over herself, and coughin and gaping when she got it. Ended up dying of gapeworm - she had never heard of such a thing.

No, mine came from Ultimate Orpington in Virginia. The quality of the birds I bought was so bad that when I tried to recoup some of the money I lost, by selling the roosters, I had people complaining that they weren't even Orpington's but barnyard mixes. When I reached out to the seller all he wanted to do was send me more chicks. When the new chicks finally arrived one was dead and another died a few days later. Plus on the packing slip he wrote straight run when I specifically asked and paid for the chicks to be sexed. I paid $5 per chick to be sexed. I called the seller but this time he wouldn't return my phone calls. As the weeks went on I started to notice that the new batch of chicks were not only poor quality but cockerels. When I contacted Ultimate Orpington he insisted that there had to be pullets in the new batch so I told him that I had no problem sending him more pictures and his response was "well I'll send you more chicks". By this time my husband and I were absolutely furious because this was the second batch of chicks that we brooded, fead all organic feed, had them vaccinated and then had to give them away. So here we are about $500 lost because this guy is selling us low-quality cockerels that he's just trying to get ride of. My husband told me not to deal with that company ever again. All they did was waste our time and take our money.

After our experience with Ultimate Orpington I don't think I'll ever order birds from a breeder again. I know some people think that you should order from a breeder and not a hatchery but I tell you what all my hatchery chicks are good quality and sexed perfectly.

I am so sorry that you're going through the same thing we went through. It's funny that you say one of your birds looks like a Serama because One of the birds in the second batch of chicks has that same crazy tail and orange feet.

I cannot imagine that quality of bird coming from here, are you sure you ordered these from us?would you kindly msg me your invoice number,I keep track of each and every bird that leaves here and I looked through my records and could not find a order matching your description your location says md&va we are in virginia and I can always be contacted here on byc, facebook or by simply email or calling the farm,I would be happy to let you come pick out point of lay hens this spring since you are close enough for pickup.I have never had anything here look like these birds pictured and i raise alot of them each year,so i would truly like to figure this out.

Greg, this is Angelica. The first batch of chicks I came to your house to pick up the second batch of chicks you mailed to me. Everything I wrote is everything I spoke to you about on the phone.

Please don't try to say these didn't come from you. I texted you pictures of these birds and the second batch of birds and they all had the same issues. My husband and my children can all attest that these came from your farm as my children were with me when I picked up the first batch at your house and the second batch from the post office. Plus I have never had any Roos on my property except the ones that came from you.

If you would like to give me the correct breed and PULLETS we paid for next spring GREAT!!! But if you plan to give me Roos that you're just trying to get rid of NO THANKS!!!

Like I told you from day one I wanted to find a breeder close enough to where I could pick up chicks and not have them mailed. I was extremely excited to find your company. Your prices were a little on the high side but I didn't care as long as the chicks were good quality. During my visit to your house I told you if everything went well with that batch I would be placing more orders. Unfortunately, nothing has gone well and we have lost money by purchasing from your company.

These are the birds we have left after the second batch. I haven't been able give these guys away.

I would assume they are trying to say the birds didn't come from them so that word doesn't spread. They don't want to lose business.

Thank you all so far for your information. I will be sure to add them to my
"Dont buy from" list. Even though I don't have orpingtons.

these ones look good for there age,the one does have red leakage, that can happen and there is no way to tell if that is going to be the case with a chick,I am sorry you where sent straight run and ended up with boys.I will be more than happy to replace them. The one bird in question is a black leghorn, when we ship chicks we usually add chicks of what we have extra on hand. You are most welcome to come and get pullets this spring ,Give me a call and we can sort out a pick up.Thanks

You are not the only one who has had issues with this farm. There are so many stories on Facebook it makes my head spin. However, not all breeders are unethical. You just have to do your research. There are many good breeders that will give you much better quality than a hatchery. Hang in there and enjoy your chickens!

Thank you! You are 100% right I should have done my research. This is a big lesson learned.
