Meet Luna. She is an 8 week old Australorp we got from the local farm store pullet bin. She is standing a bit upright in these photos because she is trying to figure out what my camera is. Does she still look like a girl to you? She is starting to get a green sheen to her feathers.

I think pullet, though the face is a little red. Don't see any of the 'roo feathers' so I think you're safe. Black hens usually get green/purple feathers as well as the roos

Ok Luna is now 15 weeks old. Here is an updated picture. Still pullet? She sure is getting a nice green sheen to her feathers. Very pretty in the sun.

Looks like a pullet to me. Some black chickens get a green shine to their feathers, cockerels and pullets. I have 4 black cochin pullets and their feathers are just like this (except, well, because of their breed, more poofy), along with my Crevecoeurs, which are chicks. I'm also not seeing any oily feathers which indicate cockerel, which should've developed by now if it were to be a roo.

As you can see in the photo of mine, she has beautiful green iridescent feathers. They are a beautiful chicken. Yours is definitely a hen. :)

Mine is a 9 week old Australorp but was sold to me as a Chocolate Orpington...lol
I do believe he is a Australorp by doing my own research.
