Reviews of the chicken fountain product?

Anyone have any experiences to share of the Chicken Fountain watering system?

It seems like a popular item, but there is only one review on this site and it's not particularly positive. There are lots of blogger reviews praising it but it seems in most cases they have a free product they are reviewing and/or they are only giving a quick initial impression. Sure it's great initially but does it last? I've used their poultry nipple bottle caps before and 1 of 3 made it past three months.

Is it worth the cost or just better to go with poultry nipple+buckets?

Thanks.

Bumping this thread because I'm wondering the same thing. I saw this product over on the Chicken Chick and it seems like a good idea but would love to hear from someone who bought it and has used it long term.

I have it and love it.

I thought about building my own automatic waterer, but worried about a malfunction when I was out of town (due to a mistake on my part in construction, etc.). Even though a neighbor looks in on my chickens when we are gone, and they are secure, I like to keep the neighbor's chores to a minimum.

I also purchased the winterizing kit (copper pieces that fit in the nipples, then you get the submersible heater online).

It has been working very well, I have the one sided version with 3 nipples.

We just installed this Chicken Fountain over the weekend.....girls were reluctant at first but picked it up within a few hours. I am very satisfied with the appearance and quality of the system so far. The float is within the main body of the system which is covered and should not get dirty or green...We replaced an auto fill unit which allowed them to dip their beaks in and while it worked and needed infrequent float replacement, the water became dirty quickly. Our feed is simply a high quality hose run from the house spigot underground across the yard. My hopes are high for a low maintenance system....time will tell.

We also purchased a couple of these 2 litre nipple caps for the brooder.....I like that they can be taken apart....it would be easy to clean should something get into it....these are the same nipples used on the Chicken Fountain....

We just installed the Chicken Fountain. The water does get hot in the main part. We insulated the water hose all the way to the fountain and put insulation around the fountain and the water still got very hot inside. I emailed the makers to ask if I could put a frozen water bottle inside the main part and was told I could. That has helped some. In the evening I take it out and refreeze for the next day. I also put up an umbrella over it. It's hot (was 105.8 on our back porch today) and windy here on the coast of Texas so don't know how long the umbrella will last. My concern is that my chickens don't seem to get enough water. I see the ground very wet under the fountain. I wish there were little cups that could catch all the drops they miss. They seem to catch 1 out of every 3 drops water. We have a water well so hopefully if it goes out (power outage, etc) we'll be home so they have water. If it ever rains here my husband said he would bury the water hose to help keep the water cooler. Come winter I'll like it better since it doesn't freeze here often.

I would love to have been able to install the fountain inside the coop but there's no room for it and I have a wood floor. With the constant drips that wouldn't work very well.

It seems we buy things to make it easier to take care of our chickens and it doesn't always work out that way. Overall I like it, just wish I could catch those drops and keep the water cooler.

Seems to me as if any water source would get hot in that heat. I think you can also put ice cubes in the reservoir.
What about a tray under the fountain nipples? It could even be several inches deep and then you put pavers or bricks inside the tray to prevent it from tipping over. But it would catch the water. And they could drink from that, too.

I also have a deep plant saucer out in the run under a tree with bricks in it. The chickens also drink from that. Seems like the bricks help cool the water a bit (if in the shade).

The water under the fountain doesn't bother me as much as worrying that they get enough water. Since the fountain is attached to the fence there's no room under it for a tray or pan. They would step on it every time they got a drink. That water would get dirty real quick.
