This little 'lady' came in an order of chicks from Meyer Hatchery. She's the meal maker chick. She doesn't look like any of the other chicks we ordered. She started out as a golden brown chipmunk. The photos here were taken at 11 days old.

I'm guessing Wellsummer? (We ordered Marans, Wyandottes, Austrolops, and Easter Eggers) Perhaps someone with more experience could take a guess for me?

Wow, that's a pretty chick!

I can't tell what breed it is yet.

However, it looks a lot like my Easter Egger cross chick did.

Sorry, he's hard to see. He's the one in the middle. He has the same black markings coming from his eyes.

I don't think it would be a broiler, I ordered all laying hens. don't think they send meat chickens when you order all layers.

Very pretty!

It does sort of look like a Freedom Ranger/Production Red. Did they give you an extra chick in your order? I know McMurray offers an extra, free chick.

Yes, this was an 'extra' chick that came in with an order from Meyer Hatchery. It's larger than all the other chicks and has much more comb development. I ordered all sexed female layers.

I was worried that this chick might be a cockerel. We already have one rooster, but there will be 20 hens, we may be able to keep both. What do I do if it's a broiler? I'm not going to butcher it....
