July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

I finished. I float wiggle tested the last 8 and they were unmoving. I candled. Nothing. I settled for my 60% hatch rate and called it. So, results: 45 set. 7 removed as clear or early quitters. 38 to lockdown. The Buff laced Brahmas had the poorest showing with only 2/7 hatching. 4/7 Ameraucana, 5/7 Black Copper Marans, 4/7 Welsummers, 4/7 Partridge Plymouth Rocks, 1/3 Crested Cream Legbar, and 7/9 mixed breed chicks hatched. 2/27 died in the first 24 hours.
Not bad and great record keeping too.

I'm done with this years hatch. See you all next year for more hatch-a-longs !!!!!

Definitely done hatching for this hatch a long but set 12 new eggs for August got 10/12 eggs developing versus 13/24 from this time last month.... These are my little guys from July :)

Nearly 3 weeks old and feathering up nicely :D

I know they're still very young but if I could put money on it I'd put my money on these 2 being boys :)

Sooooo cute!!!

All the best.

Thanks so much, hoping for a couple more of our lavender orpington x blue laced red Wyandotte mixes.
Only keep a couple we're selling the rest.
I have the hardest time sexing our birds because most are mixed. But crossing our fingers for a couple green eggers and blue layers. Just a couple more hens to make up for when our other birds are too ok or take a Break.

How much do you sell your chicks for and where do you sell them at? I haven't started selling any chicks yet but had someone ask if I can sell a few hens when they get old enough to be sexed. I also want to start sellng to help cover some feed costs.

day olds depend on breed
Mixed EE's go for $4 bantam -$5 LF
Lav orps depending on # purchased $8-$10
BBS Silkies $5

As they get older (past being under heat lamps) prices go up. 1-3 months are all priced the same 3-4 months then I price as adults.

Don't undercut yourself unless you are overrun.
Food housing and your time cost money.

I hope this helps
