I'm just beginning the whole chicken raising frenzy so I need an experts opinion... So far my coop is planned to be 4ft wide, 4ft long, and 3ft high. Is this enough space for 6 chickens? Also, I have a hanging feeder and waterer, pine wood shavings as bedding, and a run area about 8ft long. Can the run flooring just be grass? Please let me know if I'm missing anything. Thanks! Molly

The coop is large enough for 6 birds if they are not locked in on days and only use it to roost at night and use the nest box. I'd attach the box external, 10" square holes to coop and lid to gather eggs. Just put a divider in the nest box for two nest areas. They'll probably only use one but want the option.

Think bigger on the run. 8X8 wouldn't be bad but if your thinking 8X4 they wont be as happy which can lead to pecking problems.

This is a nice coop. You don't need the sky light and certainly don't need three nest boxes. I'd move the door over to right and lower the (2 nest) box to same elevation. Depth of shavings you want determines door openings except the back clean out door.

Oh, and grass floor in run is fine but know it will soon be torn to dirt. If you place 2ft of welded wire (2x4 14 gauge) just under sod from under run edge out it will stop digging predators from getting into your run.
