overgrown spur on chicken

My rooster Ares has quite the large spurs. He's not very aggressive, so it's fine, but one of his spurs is growing in an awkward position and I'm worried it might puncture his foot due to the drastic curvature. I've never trimmed a rooster spur before, and I want to make sure I get it right...

Hello there, My 4 yr old cuckoo Maran has a large spur that grows backwards & has now reached her leg. I’m afraid that it will continue to grow & pierce her leg! Can it be cut off? Her sister had one growing normally & it partially fell off. Thanks in advance for any help
