Hello. I have hen with 7 chicks.
If I put finger thru fence, one RIR chick is pecking it, like defence.
Something to work around this?
This probably is nothing, remeber when I tried to move 1 week old sex links, then one black cockerel when I was going to pick him, he was little puffy and peck on finger instead of running away. And he grown good, I can pick him up where ever I want. No disrespect.

Is it an aggressive move or could it just be curiosity? Young roosters are bolder and more prone to pecking.

The mother of them is very angry and peck me, so I think she load them up, and make notice its like normal. But gonna see how its gonna happen, I had noone rooster which disrispect me, one was which try to mate my shorts but were good today.

your bold little one may just very well be a cockerel!! those baby roosters can show their "cockiness" at a very early age. have seen it here myself. meanwhile, keep an eye on "him". this one could turn out to be super aggressive:>(

dam.n his interesting.
Actually I always had wanted a RIR rooster, mean big as.s rooster, but to be friend to me.
Today when I bend in cage to change waterer, he just went out off hens bottom straight to between my hands, I easily pick in in hands. Solid strong chick. P.S, I didnt take them in hands before so, he is just braveheart.

I had second one same in colouring, I guess RIR are ones where pullets look bit different from cockerels aint it?
am I gonna have two cocks?
Gonna post pics after 12 hours.

I've never had RIR cockerels, only pullets so not sure if sexlinked.
Certainly handling this little bold one will help in encouraging friendliness. But be aware that if he's gonna be a stinker, NOTHING will keep him sweet

I have a Delaware roo that was bold from day one. However, he is growing into a bit of a nasty fellow, pecking at me any chance he can get. I don't think we will be keeping him. Its a good lesson to learn. The bravest, friendliest of young roos tend to be the more aggressive ones.
