It's day 2 of lock down and I look in window and I see this egg. I had to open to take it out, I've been hatching eggs for at least 10 yrs now and I have never had this happen. It's my second time using a brand new hover bator and you know, my old one is more reliable!
This egg did explode cause it was on one side of the bator and I found the top on the other side and the yolk looks cooked (

obviously unfertile). The temp is at 99.8
Does anyone know what would cause this?

Uh ho...this doesn't look too good.
Is it cooked?
It's hard to tell.

Looks like you got some mold growing on it?

Hot spots n the bator, I'd say.

Get extra thermometers and calibrate them.
Place them all around the bator.

That was a rotten egg, it spoiled and turned into a bacteria bomb. We all know what bombs like to do. Hopefully it didnt get on the other eggs and you were able to clean it up before anything bad happens. Make sure to clean your incubator super well, use dish soap and then some rubbing alcohol or mouthwash to disinfect it.
