So I have three 4 week old chicks (exactly 28 days today), one barred rock (Owl), one sapphire gem (Cinder), and one buff orpington (Daisy). The orpington I'm not concerned about, as I'm about 99% certain she's a pullet. The barred rock I vacillated on for a while due to temperament and a more noticeable comb, but judging by how dark she is, and how muddled her barring is, I'm relatively certain she's also a pullet (although I'll still post pictures of her for opinions).
The one I'm just not entirely sure on is my sapphire gem. I know that, in general, males will have a white spot on their head, and tend to be lighter in color with minimal to no black on their beaks and legs, and barring. I also know that females of this breed can sometimes have the tendency to feather slower/have larger combs than other breeds. Cinder never had a white spot, has a dark head, legs and beak, and other than some expected lacing on the very tips of her wings, no evidence of barring. However, she feathered slower than the other two and still barely has butt feathers, and her comb is a bit suspect (not red, but looks more noticeable) Keep in mind, her comb has always been peculiar in that it is curled over to the left, and has been since she was a day old.
I know it's still a bit early to tell for certain, but what are your guys' thoughts?
Also, our lights tend to give photos an overly warm hue, so combs aren't pink despite the tinge, they are all orange or yellow
And sorry about the blurriness, these three are full of vinegar before bedtime
