I an trying to determine the gender of my silkie chicks. One buff and one white. They are 4-5 weeks old. I dont know the exact age since the person i bought them from, wasn't sure. I hand picked them out of about 16 chicks (8 of similar age and 8 that were 3 weeks older). I tried to pick out females but I am not sure if I have any. The white one has zero comb development and the buff has very little. The buff has a very rounded head (central top portion) while the white one has a more elongated profile. The other chicks from the same batch all had stronger comb development. All the white chicks in the batch had the head feathering seen in the white one pictured below. Mother hen was black and father was white. Not sure if this info is of any help but hopefully the pictures will help. No chest bumping or aggressive behaviour yet. I have 2 white chicks that are 7-8 weeks old that i got from the older batch and they chest bump everyday (not pictured).

They are still young, but a silkie (the buff one) with that much comb development at 4 weeks old is most likely a rooster.

The white is still to young.

When they are 9 weeks old send an update.
Both turned out to be hens. Well the white one broke its leg and became lame. I had to put it down. Just got my first egg from the buff one on Tuesday
