Hi there,

New to the boards and from Ontario, Canada.

I'm going crazy wondering if I have males or females.

3 of the chicks are Sasso(dual purpose), which are hybrids(the white one, the red one and the all black/silver one) The other one is something called a Noiran which is some kind of Marans mix.(supposed to lay dark eggs)

I was told 90% pullets by hatchery, but after combing through posts here, that prob doesn't mean much. I most def can't have a rooster and am scared, 3 out of 4 may be males.

They are all very sweet, just the Noiran seems a bit antisocial. Also it's tail has been taking forever to come in. They all have ginormous feet. But I'm wondering if that's because they are bred to be heavy.

Also, any ideas on what these mixes might be?

Thanks so much.

I don't see anything suspicious. The combs are tiny and pale, but keep in mind that sometimes a pullet will start developing faster (especially as you have mixed breeds). My two Australorps have looked NOTHING alike for the last 18 weeks (so I was sure one of them was a rooster), but they are both 100% pullets. I had to keep coming back to the forums for peace of mind 😅

IMO, the biggest tell will be crowing (duh) or the appearance of saddle feathers.

Thanks so much for the reply. Yes they call them a sasso breed but they are obv from diff mixes so I guess I can't really compare them. The white one is so tiny, but she was the biggest chick. There doesn't seem to be any fighting so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I need to get off these boards. It makes me want one of everything. Australorps are so beautiful.
