Woot! I may be hatching some my own eggs. I have a mixed flock, so they'll be mutt chicks. I've been looking for the bullseye in the yolks and I have seen a couple already. Maybe my OE will be laying by then.

The tufted gene is lethal when the chick gets two copies, one from each parent. So if you breed tufted to tufted 25% of the chicks will die before they hatch. This is why some Araucana breeders breed tufted to only clean-faced, that way the chicks will can only receive one copy of the gene. I think the likelihood of getting tufted chicks is the same, though.
