They will be getting their 'big boy' feathers in just a few more weeks.
Yes, their male specific feathering. Those feathers don't usually begin to develop until about 10 weeks old, and take a few more weeks to really be visible. Male hackle feathers have a distinctly 'flowing' sort of look. The saddle feathers emerge from underneath the back feathers, and are very shiny, almost wet looking.
The red bird in this photo is my rooster. This was taken at about 10 weeks old, and you can see the saddle feathers just beginning to show.
