8-month old cochins not laying yet!!!!!

Hi! I also live in Ashland, and have 4 Black Stars. They're currently (Feb 2011) laying up a storm - I found that free feeding (feed available all the time) was the key.

My cochins didn't start until they were 7 and 8 months old, but once they did, they've been great! Hang in there! They started laying about a week or so after their combs developed and got red. When I first read about cochins, I learned they are low producers, just a couple eggs a week. Well, my girls lay six days in a row and just take one day off. Their eggs are big, gorgeous and delicious-it's worth the wait!
