OK, this is one of those gross yet funny things that I think my fellow chicken people will appreciate.
We have a large enclosed concrete-floor patio outside the front door of our house. I have found that whenever I do a good seasonal sweeping of this porch, the chickens gather up outside the door to pick enthusiastically among the sweepings. I couldn't really figure out why until I looked a little closer.
Being low to the ground, the floor often gets quite wet when it rains, and somehow or other we end up with a few earthworms on it. And what are the chickens out there snarfing down? Yup, naturally air-dried earthworms.
Too bad there aren't more, I could probably sell them as gourmet chicken treats.
