I have always made sure that my young roosters move away from me as they are maturing, I use a fishing net if I need to make my point.
I have watched my dominant roosters moving the submissive ones away. I have observed a general distance of about 5-15 feet is required, so if a rooster is coming into your space there's going to be trouble.
All my roosters move away from me, none are picked up except if they need nails or spurs trimmed. I own many different breeds of roosters and all are respectful and I don't even think twice about their behavior towards me.
