Hello all! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on byc. It’s been a very busy couple months, and there are many updates to be given in my flock! (We call it Anthill farm/flock due to the obscene amount of ant colonies in our yard :gig)

There might be some overlap on info from other posts, but I’m not sure which info I have and haven’t shared, so I’ll jump right in!
First, the new birds. There are 4 new adults I have added to my flock! All are Bantams, One is a Wyandotte hen, two old English lemon blues, and one brown red old English hen. (Pictures will be at the very end!)
I finally hatched chicks! After dozens of eggs, we finally had some that hatched. 5 old English Bantams, two birchen moderns, and (yay!!) 3 lemon blue moderns. There’s one LB baby who I can’t wait to see grown up, he/she already stands on his toes, and has that look, so hoping he keeps this pretty stance!
About a month ago, Judith, the Wyandotte hen, went broody in a clutch of 6 eggs, and dropped to 3 eggs that were developing. This morning, two modern babies, one birchen or brown Red (I’m not sure, I got the marking on the egg wrong) and one LB, were hatched and making a chirping racket!
I’ve found a new bedding for pens too. I never really liked the kind I was using, but it was the best option at our store. But, they discontinued that bag, and I was not wanting to use the big chunky wood chips. After visiting a friend, they had this bedding for their horses, and it was perfect. It’s fluffy, but absorbent and doesn’t nag down when walked all over by a chicken or horse. It’s compact in the bag, so A very little amount fills the entire pen for my birds. I’m very happy I finally found nice bedding, for a reasonable price as well.

Onto some sadder news, I’ve lost two hens so far this year. One was a hen I had only had for a month or two. It was when the weather was really cold, and I assume she just got too cold, despite my best efforts to keep them all warm.
I also lost Loki, another modern hen who I raised, to some really weird cause. I had let all my birds out for 20 minutes, before I had to leave, and went to put them up before going.when I had let Loki out, she was acting normal, but in those 20 minutes, soemthing happened and I came in and she was sitting on the ground, still near her pen. I picked her up, and put her in her pen, but she wouldn’t stand. There was a yellow/clear/red liquid leaking from her vent, and she was blinking rapidly. After a few minutes, she started walking again, but soon layed back down, but was no longer blinking and seemed alright until I got home. An hour later, I came home, and she was gone. She was on her side, and bedding flung everywhere. Her neck was all stretched out, and the weirdest thing was her vent. There was a large, pinkish blob hanging out, and her vent was stretched out. Any ideas on what happened, and what would cause this? I’ve cleared her pen out and am not putting birds in there until I know its something they can’t get as well. I’ll post this segment in the injuries/diseases thread as well.

Finally, I noticed something with a bird I had dubbed. It’s not anything bad, just soemthing I’ve never seen before. I dubbed him last December, and he healed well. Now, it looks as tho the wattles have grown back, but they are attached to the bottom of his throat, almost grown over. I’ll add an image of this later, but it is different, and a first time seeing this for me!
Now for the pictures!

Birchen Modern GB chick, only a few days old but still huge for a modern! I think he got his father’s genes.
