Hi all!

I am a new chick owner. We have six chicks. One of mine today started holding her leg up and limping on it. She also tends to lay it out to the side when she is laying down. I’m not positive how old she is. I’m guessing around a week or so old. It is either one of my golden comets or isa browns (can’t tell them apart). We keep them in our basement which has a concrete floor but they have their bedding at least 4 inches thick in their brooder. She is able to hop around on it. She seems to be laying around more today but will still get up and eat and drink. She just started this today, we have had her for about 4 days now. Can anyone offer me some advice on what this may be? I’m not sure if she has injured it or if it is splayed leg?

Can you take her out from under the lamp and place her on a flat surface, then take another picture of two straight on? Tomorrow is fine. It could have been injured, but there sometimes can be a slipped tendon or leg bone deformity in one or both legs. Is there any redness or swelling on her hock? In the pic below there is a red swollen hock:

Her hock seems to be a little red but not swollen. She keeps her left leg held out to the side a little while standing. She will put some weight on it but not a lot.

Oh and I would use some chick vitamins that contain riboflavin on the label. Human vitamin B complex can also be used—1/4 tablet crushed or ground onto food daily.
