Received my day old Heritage Rhode Island Red chicks today! Love them already.

I have two "rhode island reds " from tractor supply. Comparing my chicks to yours, I can see why they call mine production reds. The color on your chicks is beautiful!

Thank you!! It took me A LOT of researching and educating myself on what I should be looking for. I too learned that my other 5 (now 10 wk old) so called "RIRs" are actually production reds. I was initially disappointed, but I still love my PRs, they will be amazing layers. I was told that you can only find the true heritage breed by going to a breeder with a reputation for quality, and I found mine!! Hatchery birds (no matter what some people might say) just don't meet the standards. That doesn't mean they aren't great birds, just that you are unlikely to get something of show quality.

My new babies arrived today via Ideal Poultry.
Ameracaunas, Australorps, Buff Orpingtons and Barred Plymouth Rocks.
Ended up with 3 Buff Orpington males in the bunch that we know of.
They are just little puffballs!

I love the little one stuck in the lower left corner. She always looks up and comes to the side of the bin to say "hi!" :D
