barnacles?

I have 5 australorp hens and a roo in a tractor for fertile collection. Recently 1 is laying eggs with light brown specks on the outside of the egg. These "barnacles" easily scrape off with fingernail but I've never seen this. Anybody else?

Nothing to worry about, sometimes oddities like extra calcium build up on the shell happen... It usually corrects itself, unless it's a genetic issue with the bird...

Thanks. Never seen that. Have about 80 and only been at it for 6 years so still kinda green

I guess you have just been lucky I have about 100 birds total and I get a few like this every so often, usually on new layers or after they take a break from laying..

I suspect the breed might very well play into how often it might pop up, there are obviously better laying breeds then others...
