Vaska, our Barred Rock rooster, is the best rooster I have even seen. He is calm. He does not crow too much. He does not crow loudly! He protects the little chicks from older pullets. He always on the watch for predators, standing at the door and looking into the woods. He protects the new hens that were added to the flock. He offers food for his ladies first. He is not panicking without a very good reason. He is gentle to the hens. He finds a good nesting place for his girls and sits there, calling them to come and take a look. He makes sure there are no fights between hens. He is beautiful. And he is huge! The only bad thing about him is that he would not let any other rooster to be close by. But I guess that's a normal alpha-male behavior. He is just 4.5 months old. Still a baby!
