Beach sand in the coop?

We want to try sand in our coop instead of shavings. Would it be fine to use beach or river sand? Maybe rinse it first? Opinions? Thanks!

River sand is the better way to go as it's coarser with lots of various sized pebbles in it so that there is no danger in impacting a chicken's crop and it aids more efficiently in the chicken's digestion.

River sand or construction sand is better, it has less silica in it. Play sand or beach sand is finer and dustier and can cause respiratory problems.

I have been pondering this as well. I am only days away from finishing my coop and run so very timely info.
